Information about rental cars
Traveling around Iceland in a rental car is one of the best ways to experience the country. It offers impressive views and spectacular scenery. Driving in Iceland is not difficult but can still be a bit of a challenge. Your rental car is delivered through one of our partners; Avis, Europcar or Rás. We have chosen to work with these suppliers because they have good cars and good service.
Prices
Our prices include unlimited mileage and basic deductible insurance (CDW). Unlimited mileage means that no extra fees are added per mileage. The deductible insurance rate varies between the different car rental companies and car types. Please see the respective car type for detailed information. Note that the deductible insurance (CDW) does not cover all damages, such as damage to the car's undercarriage. All car rental companies offer extra deductible insurance (SCDW). You can add this insurance when you pick up your rental car in Iceland.
Car types
Only a car type can be booked, not a specific car brand or model. The car brands/models that we present are intended for illustration only, but are representative of each car type. If you are planning to drive in the Icelandic highlands, we can offer several different car types. Trips to the highlands require a car that is approved for driving on F-marked roads as well as the Icelandic highlands. These are marked with HL (highland).
Booking policy
All rental cars are booked per day, i.e. if you pick up the car at 5PM, you must return the car at 5PM on the return date. Otherwise a full extra day’s rental will be added, which will be charged on site to the rental car company.
All drivers must have had a valid driver's license for at least one year prior to renting the car, and the driver must also provide a credit card as a guarantee when the car is picked up. The minimum age for renting a car differs between the different car rental companies and car types. Please see the respective car type for detailed information.
Late arrivals to Iceland
The rental office where motorhomes are picked up closes at 6:30PM. If you arrive later than that, a fee of $210 will be charged for getting you the car.
