The lowland of Southern Iceland is an area filled with lush fields, mighty waterfalls, rugged coastlines, glaciers and charming villages. This is where the famous happenings in the Njáls saga took place (from old Norse literature).
This trip will take you to beautiful scenery and the places where Iceland’s history began. You will get acquainted with several natural wonders during one day. From Reykjavík, the journey goes south towards Hvolsvöllur, and then on to the waterfall Seljalandsfoss, where it’s possible to enter behind the curtain of crashing water. The trip continues to the even larger waterfall of Skógafoss, which during summer is surrounded by lush vegetation, and you can get very close to it at the foot of the waterfall. Weather permitting, we will explore the glacier Sólheimajökull and its overwhelming size as we pass on our way to the village of Vík on the southern coast of Iceland for lunch. Surrounding Vík are dramatic black beaches of volcanic sand, a rich bird life on the coastlines, and extraordinary lava formations. A varied day filled to the brim with Iceland’s contrasts.
