Go on a quad bike adventure through the Icelandic wilderness and enjoy the country’s unspoilt coastline on a whale safari.
Part 1: ATV Riding in Iceland
In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to our ATV base camp just outside Reykjavik city centre. Upon arrival, you will receive a safety briefing and instructions on how to operate the two-seater quad bike from an expert. Each ATV has space for two people. By default, the ATV is shared, but for an additional fee you can book as a single rider. The vehicles are automatic and easy to operate, even for beginners.
Put on the provided overalls, helmet and gloves. Take a short test ride before setting off behind your guide.
The tour begins along a paved road, passing beautiful hills and lakes. After a while, you turn onto a mountain track leading up to the summit of Úlfarsfell. Feel the adrenaline rush as you ride up and down the slopes. From the top, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Mount Esja, the Blue Mountains, Reykjavik and its surroundings, Faxaflói Bay, the Reykjanes Peninsula and the Hengill geothermal area. On a clear day, you may even catch sight of Snæfellsjökull in the distance. Hop back on your ATV and enjoy an exhilarating ride down the mountain – a true adrenaline kick.
Part 2: Whale Watching
After about an hour of riding, you return to the base camp and then take a bus to Reykjavik for your whale-watching tour. You’ll have a little time to stroll around Reykjavik’s old harbour and enjoy a quick lunch (at your own expense) at one of the restaurants or cafés before the next activity.
After lunch, board the whale-watching boat, and if you like, put on the provided overalls. Settle on deck or in the cabin and enjoy the cruise on Faxaflói Bay. During the tour, the guide shares fascinating facts about whales, seabirds and puffins along the coast. Look out for minke whales, humpback whales, porpoises and white-beaked dolphins – and keep your camera ready. If, against the odds, no whales or dolphins are spotted, you’ll receive a complimentary ticket for another boat trip.
After about three hours at sea, you return to Reykjavik harbour.
