The Elf Tour (8 AM/5 hrs/1.5 hrs riding) (C10)

5 hours From $170

Experience Iceland’s enchanting landscapes and its hidden inhabitants—the elves, also known as the “hidden people.” On this riding tour, we visit places said to be home to these mystical creatures, though they remain invisible to the human eye.

Depending on where the horses last felt their presence, we will ride along one of two paths.

We pass the stone Alfakví and the old sheep house that must not be moved unless one is prepared for serious consequences. Skjólklettur is another stop on this route, where the elves are said to have a church. When we reach the elf hill Einbúi, home to friendly elves, we ride on fine riding trails perfect for trying the Icelandic horse's special gait "tölt".

Alternatively, we ride through meadows and lava fields believed to be inhabited by elves. Pay attention to your horse's behavior – if it reacts, an elf might be nearby. You also cross the small warm river Varmá.
