Day description

Day DEP.

Flying to Iceland from the US

How your flight affects your trip *

Some flights may be overnight. You may fly out the evening before Day 1 and arrive in Iceland the next morning. The booking system may show an extra night (while in transit)—please make sure you select the correct number of nights.

Day Day 1

Arrive in Iceland and Discover Reykjavík

reykjavik, solnedgång, sommar, island

Upon arrival, a transfer will take you to Reykjavík, where you can enjoy a free day to explore the city at your leisure. Depending on what time you land, you will have the rest of the day or evening to explore Reykjavík. The capital is simply brimming with interesting sights and incredible restaurants. Icelandic cuisine is known for its incredible quality and for taking inspiration from the country’s beautiful nature, so why not round off the day with an unforgettable dinner at one of Reykjavík’s many restaurants.

Day Day 2

Golden Circle and Fontana Geothermal bath

geysir, gyllene cirkeln, island

Breakfast at the hotel. You will be picked up at your hotel for a tour of the Golden Circle. The tour takes you from Reykjavík to the majestic Golden Waterfall of Gullfoss, which is widely regarded as the most beautiful waterfall in all of Iceland. The waterfall has two steps and offers visitors the opportunity to get up close to the huge bodies of water that come crashing down over the precipice and into the ravine below. Close to Gullfoss is the geothermal area of Geysir with its many hot springs and the most active geyser in the country, Strokkur. The geyser erupts roughly every five minutes, propelling a majestic cascade of water high up towards the sky. You can wander around bubbling mud pools and steaming underground hot springs – and simply feel the power of the earth coursing right beneath your feet.

The next stop of the day is the beautiful Thingvellir National Park. Iceland is right on the fracture between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates and it is in Thingvellir National Park where the effects of this geological phenomenon are most clear to see.

Day Day 3

Reykjavík and whale watching

Whale watching tour in Reykjavík with a whale visible near the boat

Breakfast at the hotel. The morning is yours to make your own discoveries in Reykjavík. Be sure to visit the popular Hallgrímskirkja Church which is located on a hill in central Reykjavík. At 70 metres in height, it is the tallest building in Iceland. You can also relax in one of the many heated outdoor pools located all around Reykjavík – a popular pastime among Icelanders themselves. Right in the heart of the city you’ll find Laugar Spa, which is the largest spa facility anywhere in the Nordic Region.

After lunch you will head to the harbour and board the Hafsulan catamaran for an exciting adventure on the open water. There are few places in the world where wild and untamed nature is as accessible as in Iceland. The entire south coast of Iceland is home to many different types of dolphins and whales. This trip will hopefully bring you up close to dolphins, minke whales, humpback whales and even orcas whales. And if conditions are right you may even be lucky enough to spot the largest animal on the planet, the mighty blue whale!

The evening will be yours to enjoy as you please. If you like to dance, you won’t be disappointed. Reykjavík is home to a great many pubs and night clubs where you can dance away into the wee hours of the morning.

Day Day 4

Scenic south coast

South Coast Iceland.

Breakfast at the hotel. Today will take you to an array of scenic spots and important sites in the history of Iceland. The lowlands of southern Iceland are home to luscious farmlands, roaring waterfalls, sandy beaches, mighty glaciers and idyllic towns. You will have the chance to see a great many natural phenomena over the course of this single day. From Reykjavík we will head southward towards Hvolsvöllur and then onwards to the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall where visitors can creep in behind the rushing waters for a backstage view. The tour will then continue onwards to the slightly larger waterfall of Skógarfoss which is surrounded by an area of luscious greenery in the summertime. Road conditions permitting, we will then pass the glacier of Solheimajökull and experience its mighty stature from up close.

The tour will then continue onwards to the town of Vík on the south coast where we will stop for lunch. The area around Vík is home to impressive black beaches formed by volcanic sand, coastal cliffs with rich bird life and some incredible lava formations. A varied and exciting day that will show off some of Iceland’s many incredible contrasts. Afterwards you will then head back to Reykjavík to arrive at about 18:00. The evening will be yours to enjoy as you like.

Day Dag 5

Morning at leisure, afternoon at the Blue Lagoon.

Blue Lagoon

Breakfast at the hotel. In the afternoon, the highlight of the day will be a trip to the Blue Lagoon which is about 45 minutes from Reykjavík. The Blue Lagoon is a warm and inviting oasis nestled in a rugged lava-formed landscape. The contrasts will take your breath away as you relax the steam in the 38°C water of the outdoor pool.

The lagoon receives its water directly from geothermal sources as deep as 2,000 metres underground. Also there are an indoor lagoon and a geothermal sauna. Upon arrival you will be invited to enjoy a welcome drink as you settle into this unique and revitalising lagoon. Once you are feeling fully relaxed, you will then head back renewed and rejuvenated to Reykjavík.

After lunch the afternoon will be yours to make your own discoveries in the world’s most northerly capital city. Reykjavík is simply brimming with interesting museums, design stores and incredible restaurants.

Day Dag 6

Return home (5 nights) or extra day in Reykjavik

Walking by the harbor in Reykjavík with city views and lighthouse

If you're staying for six nights, this day offers a chance to slow down and enjoy Reykjavík at your own pace before flying home. After several full days of Iceland’s incredible nature, take time to explore the city’s more laid-back side. Stroll through the colorful downtown streets, browse design shops, or visit a museum or two—like the Reykjavík Art Museum or the National Museum.

For some local flavor, relax in one of the many cafés or unwind like an Icelander at Laugardalslaug, the city’s largest outdoor geothermal pool. Reykjavík also has plenty of great places to eat, from casual bites to fine dining.

If this is your departure day, a transfer bus will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the airport in time for your flight.

Day Day 7

Return home (6 nights) or extra day in Reykjavik

Inside the Volcano tour in Iceland

If you're staying for a seventh night, this final full day is the perfect chance to dive into one last Icelandic experience. You might join an optional tour—like riding an ATV to Reykjavík Peak, exploring lava fields on a buggy safari, or even venturing into a dormant volcano. Horseback riding and city tours are also available for a more relaxed pace.

Whether you go out for one last adventure or take it easy in the city, make the most of your final hours in Iceland.

If you're heading home today, a transfer bus will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport for your flight.

Day Day 8
